Plant Breeding and Genetics section has conducted research work on the development and commercialization of new cotton varieties having high yield potential, early maturing, and resistance/tolerance to biotic(cotton leaf curl virus disease & bollworm) and abiotic stresses (heat & drought). So far this section has developed twelve cotton varieties which are well adapted in climatic area of Sindh and Balochistan provinces. The proposal of upcoming variety CRIS-613 has been submitted to Technical Sub-Committee, Tandojam, Sindh for variety approval. For the year 2020, four cotton strains viz., CRIS-644 (non-Bt.), Bt. CRIS-638, Bt. CRIS- 674 and Bt. CRIS-682 of this institute will be tested in National Co-ordinated varietal trials (NCVT).
